It's a double celebration for the Ateneo community as their two senior volleyball teams brought to Katipunan the UAAP Volleyball Tournament trophies.
The Ateneo Men's Volleybal team, led by the sophomore Marck Espejo, won their first ever UAAP men's volleyball title after dislodging the two-time defending champions National University Bulldogs, last March 7, 2015 at the Mall of Asia Arena. The AMVT defeated the defending champions in two straight games, both in 4 sets.
The AMVT's female counterpart, the Ateneo Lady Eagles, led by Alyssa Valdez, also won their second championship title last March 14, 2015 at the Mall of Asia Arena. The Lady Eagles claimed their back-to-back championships after taking down the De La Salle Lady Spikers in their fourth meeting in the finals. The Lady Spikers bowed down to the Lady Eagles in two straight games, both ended in 3 straight sets. It was a perfect season for the Lady Eagles with a 16-0 win-loss record, first in UAAP history.
The volleyball season is indeed, a remarkable one for the Ateneo community. Is this the start of the Ateneo Volleyball dynasty?
